Description of the Research Project
(Digital) media are a primary source of scientific information for diverse audiences and, hence, act as intermediaries of trust by mediating trust between science and its publics. The research project TruSDi II, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), investigates the relationship of trust between science and (digitised) public audiences in a consortium comprising LMU Munich, TU Braunschweig, the University of Hamburg and the University of Bielefeld. It is a follow-up project to TruSDi; therefore, it aims to extend previous research by incorporating the relevant topics of climate change and artificial intelligence.
To this end, the project proceeds a panel survey on public trust in science, examines the effects of media use and exposure to its content on changes in trust in science; it identifies key events relevant to individuals placing trust in science and examines the role of (digital) opinion leaders in this context. Consequently, the research program uses a methodological triangulation to explain dynamics of trust relationships between science and public audiences. In combination with the insights of TruSDi I, the research project aims to deepen the understanding of public trust in science.
Further information on the project TruSDi II can be found on the official GEPRIS website.
